Z metamorphosis by Minas Borboudakis is a 22-minute work for large orchestra ((3(1/2/3,Picc,AFl,BFl).2(1/2,CorA).3(1/BCl/3,CBCl).2(1/2,CBsn) — 4.2(1,PiccTpt/2).3(1/2/BTrbn).0 — Timp. 3 Perc — Pf(=Sampler) — EGtr — Str), in which sound material and musical gestures from the composer’s opera Z are transformed into a symphonic amalgam. Vocal lines, dialogues, as well as the musical theatre’s linguistic style function like a net behind the music and form a large-scale symphonic flow in Metamorphosis, in which language becomes music and music becomes language.

Z metamorphosis was premiered in Salzburg on 16 January 2022 by the Mozarteum Orchestra conducted by Constantinos Carydis.

The full score is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.
