“In This Is Ragtime, Terry Waldo, musician and scholar, explores Ragtime in detail, offering music lovers and social historians a unique view of the music from its inception through its colorful evolution. Waldo tells the story of Scott Joplin and his attempts to elevate the music to the status of the classics. Waldo also depicts the many settings of the music from its eginnings in earthy minstrel shows and whorehouses to dixieland emporiums and, finally, pretigious concert halls. Waldo amplifies his account with pithy interviews with most of Ragtime’s enduring personalities including: Eubie Blake, Max Morath, Turk Murphy, Lu Watters, Joe “Fingers” Carr, and Joshua Rifkin. This is Ragtime, in its initial publication in 1976, became a classic and fueled the Ragtime revival of the 70s. Now this new edition is presented with an update, an introduction by Wynton Marsalis, and brand new color illustration
