By Beaumont Glass

Volume II begins with Frhlingslied/Geffnet sind des Winters Riegel and ends with Zur Namensfeier des Herrn Andreas Siller. Song cycles are presented alphabetically, as a unit. Therefore Die schne Mllerin appears in Volume I and Winterreise appears in Volume II, as it does not begin with a D word.

Professor Glass adds a wealth of experience to its creation, using our three and four-line IPA/Word-for-Word Translation System with which he incorporates the fruits of years of teaching and performance with singers of international stature.

Schubert’s Complete Song Texts has already been the subject of glowing reviews from two important sources:
“…Glass (Univ. of Iowa, Iowa City) makes an especially strong contribution to this field. He has taken on the whole of Schubert’s more than 600 songs… There are other translations and transcriptions available but none as comprehensive as this one…“
— M.S. Roy, Pennsylvania State University
[From Choice, a monthly review service published by the Association of College and Research Libraries.]

“…Such attention to idiosyncratic detail, as well as the exemplary transcriptions and translations assure that this publication will quickly become the definitive reference in its field. No musician actively concerned with Schubert Lieder can afford to be without this highly recommended text…“
— Richard Dale Sjoerdsma, The Journal of Singing, Vol. 52, No. 2 November/December 1996, pp. 65-57.
