Composer’s Note:

The piece is a portrait in various moods of an unusual pairing of instruments. It was commissioned by flutist Sue Ann Kahn for a concert she was giving with bassist Lewis Paer. The version played at the premiere was in two movements, but after the premiere I combined the two movements into one. Both versions can be heard on youtube.
