Composer’s Note

Llria Impressions was comissioned by Edeta Arts, John Crozman, CEO, in recognition of Llria, Spain being designated as a UNESCO City of Music.

Llria Impressions was one of ten works I composed that premiered on July 6, 2024 for the Impressions of Llria festival, culminating a week long series of concerts featuring percussion groups from around the world.

Numerous archeological sites dating back to Iberian, Arabian, and Roman times exist in Llria. Llria Impressions hints at musical forms, rhythms, harmonies, and traditional folk melodies from Llria. Each composition also includes musical concepts from other cultures outside the province of Valencia, integrating the UNESCO concept of recognizing a small group of cities from around the world that have distinguished themselves as Cities of Music whereby music is historically interwoven and currently in the fabric of the community’s culture.

The original performance was with plucked string orchestra.
