Marvin Gayes Icon compiles key recordings from across his Motown years, tracing his evolution from early 60s hitmaker to one of the labels defining voices. Issued as part of Universals Icon series, the set pulls from multiple phases of his catalog, spanning duets, solo chart singles, and later studio work rooted in Motown soul and beyond.

Early hits like How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) and I Heard It Through the Grapevine sit alongside duets such as Aint No Mountain High Enough, while later material like Whats Going On and Lets Get It On reflects his shift toward more personal and socially aware songwriting. The inclusion of Distant Lover (live) adds a glimpse of his stage presence during the mid-70s. This CD edition gathers these recordings in a single-disc format.
