From Nourlangie is, like much of Peter Sculthorpes work, inspired by the Australian landscape and coastline; the piece is inspired by material from his guitar concerto Nourlangie (1989), which refers to great monolith in the Kakadu National Park, as well as traditional Indonesian music, which is evoked in the accompanying figures. This 4-minute version from 1994 for string quartet begins with a slow introduction, before offering three statements of its principal melody, which grow in intensity. This product comprises the instrumental parts.
