LA CRATION DU MONDE (THE CREATION OF THE WORLD), Op. 81a is a ballet by Darius Milhaud (1892-1974), composed to a libretto by Blaise Cendrars, which outlines the creation of the world based on African folk mythology. After hearing jazz music on the streets of Harlem, Milhaud finished composing LA CRATION DU MONDE using jazz elements. The work was commissioned by the Ballets sudois and premiered at the Thtre des Champs-lyses in Paris on October 25, 1923. Today this piece has been established in the concert repertoire.
