Composer’s Note:

The original version of this piece was composed in 2007 for trumpet and piano, and dedicated to renowned trumpeter Ron Anderson. The two of us performed the premiere in 2007 at Bennington College. I had the impulse to arrange it for Violin and Piano the next year. This resulted in a much expanded and more virtuosic version of the solo part, and an enrichment of the piano part. The playful outer movements frame a somber and mysterious central movement. Despite the angularity of the writing, this is a piece with an entertaining, sophisticated and stylized personality. Since the Tango ends with a bang, some performers have chosen to reverse the first and last movements. The original version ends poignantly.
