John Coltrane Quartets Ballads was released in 1963 on Impulse! Records, arriving during a period when the group was also pushing into more exploratory territory. Drawn from sessions recorded in late 1961 and 1962, the album focuses on standards, presenting the classic quartet in a more restrained, lyrical setting.

Interpretations like Say It (Over and Over Again) and You Dont Know What Love Is lean into space and tone, while All or Nothing at All and Nancy (With the Laughing Face) showcase Coltranes phrasing at its most deliberate. This edition is presented on CD.
