Uh-Huhby John Cougar Mellencamp was his seventh studio album and the first released under the John Cougar Mellencamp name. The record marked a turn toward a leaner, guitar-driven sound rooted in Midwestern rock. Crumblin Down opens with a hard-edged account of economic pressure, while Pink Houses pairs a broad American portrait with a deceptively easygoing chorus and Authority Song turns generational resistance into a compact rocker. This CD edition also includes an acoustic version of Pink Houses.
