Foreword by Sherrill Milnes

As with the Puccini Libretti volumes, Sherrill Milnes wrote the Foreword for the Verdi. As he is recognized as an international specialist in the difficult Verdi baritone roles, this seemed most appropriate. Since the first publication of the Libretti series in late 1994, Nico Castel has been deluged with positive comments regarding his accomplishments both as a vocal artist and as a diction teacher, both positions of which he has held for many years at the Metropolitan Opera. In addition, he has been a sought-after performer with The New York City Opera and many other major world theatres as a character tenor. He has more than 200 of these roles in his repertoire. He is also much in demand as a foreign-language diction specialist in many major music schools and opera houses: The Juilliard School; Manhattan School of Music; The Mannes School of Music; Boston University; The Helsinki National Opera; Indiana University; The Israel Institute of Vocal Arts in Tel Aviv, etc., etc. His colleagues in all these places hold him in such high esteem, it is impossible for us to list all their comments in this space.
