Composer’s Note:

Journalis a series of nine brief movements named for days of the week. The pieces could be heard as representing diary entries suggesting a narrative sequence. I composed the piece at the artist retreat Yaddo in 1996, on a request from a Danish Trio comprising this instrumentation. I had never written for guitar before and purchased an inexpensive one at a local music store. To make sure that it was playable, I learned how to play the part I was writing while writing it.
