Notes from the composer:

The score is eclectic with use of various linear, rhythmic and harmonic sources.

The soprano or tenor expresses the beauty of the piano with its long, flowing and sustained melodic lines meant to communicate the essence of the piece.

The cello sets the mood, controls the rhythmic changes and shapes the form of the piece with its many chromatic key shifts and important fermatas. It also controls and shapes the dramatic/subtle dynamic materials and phrasings of the piece. The various rhythmic phrase patterns should be clearly expressed and understood.
